JIAYUGUAN

Jiayuguan, in the Ganzu Province, was a strategic spot on the ancient silk road located at the western end of the Ming period Great Wall. A large command-post was built at a place called Jiayuguan in 1372, on the orders of the first Ming Emperor. It has been restored since 1949. There are two large gate-towers overlooking a panorama of desert & bare mountain, which in winter is covered with a coat of fine, wind-blown snow.
